United States Gender Wage Gap Wider

The World Economic Forum (WEF) said in its latest Global Gender Gap report that the slow pace at which the global gender pay gap is narrowing means women are now earning what men did a decade ago.
In the United States, the gap is 64%, meaning that women earn about two-thirds of what men make for similar work.
This is worse than it was last year, when the gap was 66%. The United Stated now ranks 74th in wage equality among 145 countries. Last year, it was 65th.

Martin Luther King And Equanimity

Martin Luther King said to his adversaries, “We will wear you down by our capacity to suffer, to face suffering, and still not stop, still march, still tell the truth, still do what’s necessary to make the change.” Not being reactive is not being passive. It’s not a kind of stupidity, holding back or being disinterested, removing oneself from the world. Real equanimity isn’t indifference. Georgia and Potential Impact Of U.S. Supreme Court Decision In King v. Burrell

The U.S. Supreme Court is expected to announce a decision in King v. Burrell, possibly this week. The petitioners are challenging the legality of premium and cost-sharing subsidies for low- and middle-income people buying health plans in 34 states where the federal government rather than the state is operating an insurance marketplace established by the Affordable Care Act.

“In my state of Georgia, 500,000 people would lose their insurance — 8 or 9 million people across the country. And all [states] have to do is put the exchanges in place,” Rep. David Scott (D-Ga.) said as he left a closed-door meeting.

Georgia law prohibits Medicaid expansion without legislative approval.

The Obama administration estimates that 6.4 million Americans currently get financial subsidies through Health.gov.
